What a great place! We had everything we needed and enjoyed the fishing advice and great drink prepared by Bill, the bartender. The food was also delicious. We’ve been here before and always look forward to our meals.

Dear Jake and Sue,

Just a note to say thank you for all you did to assist in making the wedding a special time for Matt and Allison. Your Inn is beautiful. We enjoyed it very much. So glad we spent the extra day in the sunshine, walking the shore and taking pictures for my album. We may never get up there again, but the memories will be sweet.

Dear Jake and Sue,

We are so grateful for the wonderful time we had at the Chanticleer. Hard to believe it’s all over, in fact! Our lodging was perfect, so clean and well stocked. Thanks for your help in our decorating. The food was amazing, too! We hope to stay again someday.

What an amazing weekend at the Hudson House fishing, swimming, boating, and relaxing:  everything was perfect.  The lake was cool and refreshing for swimming and the boats and rope swing made the Dollar Lake experience even better.

Fishing was awesome.  A few bass and tons of blue gills.  At one point, we had about a dozen fish on the stringer and as we went to pull them up, a snapping turtle had eaten about half our catch.  It was the biggest turtle any of us had ever seen.  It sat right underneath the dock eating our catch.

We also took our own boats out on the Chain of Lakes and did about 50 miles over our day’s travels.  We ended up tubing our next day on Eagle Lake to wrap up our weekend.

Dear Jake,

Thanks so much for your card. I wanted to respond to tell you how much staying at the Chanticleer meant for us. The weather of course, couldn’t have been better. Cool days and cool night, except for the last couple days when we had sunshine and low 80’s. Our last day was spent at Dollar Lake swimming with your very charming neighbor and her kids, Jennifer Wahlstrom, for whom we enclose some pictures. Your place has the well-earned reputation of being the best place in the north woods. It was comfortable, luxurious and very, very beautiful in its situation on Lake Voyageur. Your restaurant is very homey and accepting, while top of the line. But the best part of the Chanticleer is you, Jake. You run a tight ship, and it is very apparent that you take care to make the Chanticleer the best in the north. Our regards until we see you next summer (we’re also discussing a winter vacation with you, but haven’t decided yet).

Dear Sue,

I’m embarrassed to admit, but up until tonight I had never been to Chanticleer in the whole nine years we’ve lived here. I didn’t avoid it intentionally, it was just one of those things where you tell yourself, I’ve got to try that place sometime—but then never get around to it (believe me there are lots of places on my “I’ve gotta visit” list). Anyway, since I have to work on Mother’s Day, Don offered to take me out tonight and I told him Chanticleer was where I wanted to go. We had a delicious dinner of filet and shrimp. Your place is so lovely; it’s classy without being pretentious, and established without looking “dated.” I felt relaxed and special, just the perfect combination for a celebration. Thanks for providing such a nice place! I promise it won’t be nine years before I return!

Visiting from Northern Virginia and CA and VA

We could not have asked for more “perfect” weather.

Fishing was great (bass, bluegill, crappie, lilly pads) – Fri. night frying pan

Cabin ambiance décor and location excellent – would recommend to anyone.

Nightly walks –would see “lots” of wildlife (NICE)

Daily visits from a local bald eagle which is nesting nearby.

The fireplace was an added bonus – used it almost every day—thanks for the wood too!

Loons would serenade us each evening!

The house, with all the furnishings, including the spacious deck was great!  Great layout!

The rope swing was a hit for the kids!

We walked to the beach each day.  The boats were used for catching our fish!

Dock provided for many photo shots and hanging out!

Hopefully next time we can stay for 2 weeks!

We had a great time. The fishing was great on Dollar.  Our family & friends really enjoyed the Pontoons boat.  This vacation at Hudson House was as enjoyable as I hoped.  I would be sitting on the deck and enjoying the view.  It was a very restful and enjoyable week.  Could not ask for anymore.  Our family will surely make a return visit

Dear Discover Wisconsin,

Thank you, thank you, thank you! My friends and I thoroughly enjoyed the entire Eagle River Package you folks put together! Wow! After watching the snowmobile races in the heated VIP suite we rode to dinner at the Chanticleer Inn. What a fabulous place. The meal was super. We had the privilege of meeting the owner who was kind enough to give us a history of the snowmobile races and of his establishment. We were treated like royalty! Sat by their fireplace and enjoyed a bottle of wine. Outstanding! The only down side to the whole adventure was the fact that we had to depart. Now that we have experienced the winter side of Eagle River, plans are in the works to return to the area in the summer.

Our 11th year at Chanticleer, where does time go?  Jake and Sue, we are so grateful you continue to run such a beautiful resort.  Hudson House is so special to us.  Thank you for making everything so comfortable and cozy

We have seen more deer and eagles this year than ever before.  The fishing has been really good.  Our favorite loons still hang around to entertain us.

This year’s trip is extra special as it’s part of our 30th wedding anniversary celebration.

We feel so blessed to be able to spend time here on Dollar Lake.  It’s a wonderful place to calm our spirits &recharge our batteries.  It seems as if the verse; “Be still and know that I am God” was written for this place & time.  Our heartfelt thanks!

Jake,

I would like to take some time to thank you for our beautiful weekend villa. We were originally going to stay in Three Lakes at ******. This would have been our second time there; however it has now become our last. Let’s stay polite and just say it was not run efficiently. With no other place as back-up, I had my wife call the Chanticleer. Her family and I stayed in the villas two years ago and absolutely loved them. Perfectly located, very clean, well furnished, beautiful scenery, great food/restaurant, great staff and very well run. I also have to thank you for the rates you provided our hunting party with the predicament we were in. Ducks or no ducks we had a wonderful weekend and have you and the Chanticleer to thank. I know my family, hunting party, and I will return very soon. I also know that the Chanticleer will be on the top of my list when asked for a referral.

We enjoyed our time at the cabin. We traveled on a few planes from Myrtle Beach, SC. The cabin was wonderful for all of us. The cooler temperatures with no humidity is just what we were looking for. Years ago I worked at the Everest Resort…so much has changed, but it is still the peaceful place I remember---good ‘ole Eagle River! There were no muskies this trip, but tons of large mouth bass.

Another wonderful Northwoods vacation! Thank you, Jake, Sue and Jen for creating and maintaining such a lovely home. We enjoyed the new deck very much. We feel so blessed to have the opportunity to drink our coffee there while watching the stars disappear and hearing the forest awaken. At the end of a relaxing day we again enjoy sitting there as the sun fades and the forest goes to sleep. We always leave here with sadness, yet full of gratitude for the beauty and peace we see and feel here. It seems to us that God spent a little  time when He created the Northwoods! Thank you for the opportunity to stay in this lovely home setting & for the hospitality you showed us!

How blessed we feel to have had the opportunity to spend a week here! This is our 8th year staying at the Chanticleer & it seems as if it is the best yet. Hudson House is so comfortable. We feel at home as soon as we walk in the door. This year the true colors were glorious. We so enjoyed seeing the deer, loon, eagles and raccoons roam through the yard. We leave a piece of ourselves here so we can pick it up on our next trip North. We take a piece of “Up North” home with us to remind us to keep the big things simple and the simple things big. Thank you for providing us a wonderful place to vacation!

Hi Jake, Sue & Family,

I haven’t been here in the winter in 20 years. It’s great going on the sled hill and walking like Jesus on the lake. We were blessed by seeing deer outside the living room window too. The love you have for your resort and your vision for providing a continuing haven for guests shines in the Hudson House. Thank you.

My heart had mixed emotions about this trip. A lot of soul-searching. I knew in my heart that this would be a good trip, but was it what we needed as a family? The choice of staying with family was a hard one to make and when we decided to stay at the Chanticleer I still had misgivings. God has blessed this trip from the first moment. Cell phones didn’t work, we were upgraded to the Hudson House and had great family bonding time! The girls in their own area, yet the fireplace drew them upstairs and as a family we watched the deer and the snow fall and enjoyed skiing and sledding outside. I will never forget this week and the special time with my family. What a beautiful spot, spacious home, and fantastic view. God does wonders when his angels work so hard. Thank you for being those angels Jake & Sue.

As we sit here at Hudson House listening to the rain fall & the fire crackle, we know we are once again blessed to have spent our vacation her!  Upon our arrival we were” greeted” by 4 deer, 2 eagles, 2 loons & various other forest “critters”.  What a welcome that was.  As the days went on, seagulls, osprey, woodpeckers and even a porcupine added themselves to our scenery.

Thank you, Sue and Jake, for continuing to provide our “home” away from “home”.

The magic and wonder of the Northwoods have been such an integral part of our lives for so many years.  It’s a magic that never fades and for that we are so very grateful!

Until next year…………
